Tika Stefano

Tika Stefano studied at K2 Jewellery Academy in 2018 and again in 2024. With a background in graphic design, her work as a maker explores themes of perception, reality, and delusion—questioning whether true freedom can be achieved while confined to the physical body. At the same time, she is deeply engaged with the aesthetics of jewellery design, seeking a balance between meaning and form.

Artist’s statement

My jewellery practice explores the boundaries between the tangible and intangible. I am drawn to the tension between reality and delusion, questioning the physical and emotional constraints that shape human experience. This ongoing exploration engages with ideas of personal identity, belonging, and duality.

Balancing meaning and form is crucial to my process. I strive to create pieces that are conceptually rich and visually impactful. Using reclaimed objects, patinas, non-precious metals, and the dynamic play of light and shadow, I aim to imbue my work with a sense of mystery and movement, inviting viewers to consider the unseen aspects of each piece.

Experimentation lies at the core of my practice. I embrace the uncertainty that arises when manipulating materials, allowing unexpected results to guide the creative process. For me, experimentation is as important as the final piece, pushing the boundaries of traditional design and materials.

In terms of materials, I work with oxidised silver contrasted against bright pigments, matte silver surfaces that emerge from shadow, and bold, simple shapes inspired by brutalist architecture. These elements reflect my interest in structure, space, and permanence.

About the experience at K2 Academy

K2 Jewellery Academy provides the ideal environment for my creative process. They encourage experimentation and foster a space where new ideas can be freely explored. Katrin and Kelvin's technical expertise, combined with their modern and forward-thinking approach to design, creates a stimulating atmosphere. The academy also brings together a community of like-minded individuals who inspire and challenge one another, making it a perfect setting for my growth as an artist.
