Palimpsest Ink Drawing

I’ve worked in Palimpsest Ink Drawing for more than 4 years now, teaching it to professional and hobby artists covering topics on Portraiture, Human Body, Fashion and Architecture. This time, bringing my brief experience of jewellery making at the Academy and combining it with my signature art technique, I’ll be guiding jewellery makers to enhance their crafting practice and open new perspectives in creative process.

Palimpsest Ink Drawing is a technique that I’ve developed looking for something that would liberate my mind and my ‘hand’. One of my friends called it ‘the art of letting go’ and it couldn’t be more accurate. PID does not require visual perfection, prior pencil sketches or formal training. It is rather a feeling that you capture and for that reason, it is a perfect tool for the design development stage in areas like jewellery making.

Taking it from the eponymous ancient technique of recycling manuscripts, Palimpsest Ink Drawing builds up of washed-off superimposed ink layers. As previous layers are see-through, they create an art memoir or a trace of your painting. This phenomenon resembles peoples’ accumulated life experiences, good and bad. Like Palimpsest, those moments build up our identity, layering up to the present time. In many ways, this art practice resembles the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-sabi, where imperfection and transience are met with acceptance and appreciation. That being said, this art practice also stimulates self-reflection and empathy - two essentials when it comes to crafting jewellery that resonates with your audience.

Join me for this two-day journey into your inner creative self, hear what it has to tell you and benefit your professional and daily life with liberating art practice.

Who it would be beneficial for

Jewellery makers, fashion illustrators, artists, hobby artists, designers, those who love art but never dared to make it, those who want to deepen their connection with their creative practice of any kind, anyone who believes that self-development is the best investment.
