This jewellery course will provide you with the foundation of jewellery and design skills to give you a start into your jewellery practice.


About this course

K2 Academy’s Level 2 Diploma in Design (Jewellery) is a beginner’s course that has been designed for students who want to obtain a thorough foundation in jewellery making, design and research skills.

Through a series of practical projects you will be taught to refine your jewellery making skills to a high professional standard, while at the same time developing your critical thinking and creative response to the design process. By the end of the course you will have built a capsule collection of jewellery pieces or small design objects. 


Course outline

The course is divided into three terms spread across one year: 


Term 1 - Colour and Texture

Modules include:

  • Introduction to practical 3D skills including cutting, soldering, bending and filing 

  • Surface decoration, e.g. enamelling, Keum Bo

  • Basic stone setting techniques

  • Introduction to sketching, drawing and experimenting with visual language 

  • Sketchbook development and thorough research skills  

  • Introduction to critical analysis and contextual awareness


Term 2 - Material Exploration 

Modules include:

  • Develop your skills, techniques and designs through given projects.

  • Casting techniques, e.g. ice-, sand,- cuttle fish,- and experimental casting

  • Combination of precious and non precious materials

  • Deepen your knowledge of research skills  

  • Introduction to the basics of metallurgy 

Term 3 - Form and Shape

Modules include:

  • Producing a personal project: design and develop your own small collection 

  •  Deepen your skills in jewellery techniques e.g. hinges, brooch backs, cold connections

  • Analysis and evaluation methods 

  • Marketing and presentation skills

  • Exhibition preparation and set up


Contextual awareness, problem solving and critical thinking are an integral part of the course and will run parallel to the other projects. 

In addition to the taught sessions there will be home work briefs, extra curricular activities such as lectures, field trips to different industry related companies to further enrich your learning experience.



By the end of the course you will be ready to progress to the K2 Level 3 Diploma in Design (Jewellery)

Who is this course for?

This beginners course is for students with no prior jewellery skills or who want to refresh and broaden their existing skills in jewellery making.
