DIPLOMA IN ART & DESIGN LEVEL 3*

1-year Course - 3 days a week -  Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

 An intermediate and advanced level course that will provide you with the high level craft skills, research skills and knowledge you need to design and make professional quality pieces.

 

About the course

Through a series of practical projects you will be taught to further refine your jewellery making skills to a high professional standard, while at the same time developing your critical thinking and creative response to the design process, as well as essential research skills. You will also be taught different research skills as well as a selection of business skills. By the end of the course you will have built a portfolio of work with a view to starting a professional career in the jewellery industry. 

 

Who is the course for?

Intermediate and advanced students, or students who have already completed the K2 Extended Certificate in Art & Design or equivalent and professional jewellers wishing to broaden their skills and knowledge base.  

 

Course outline

The course is divided into three terms spread across one year: 

 

Term 1 - Colour and Texture

Practical 3D skills - within the given technical projects

Sketching, drawing and experimenting with visual language 

Research skills, exploring the history of arts and crafts 

Critical analysis and contextual awareness  

 

Term 2 - Material Exploration

Design, develop and produce your own project 

Deepen your technical skills

Metallurgy – advanced knowledge of metallurgical processes and terminology

Further deepen your research skills

Experimental project, including time-based projects 

 

Term 3 - Form and Shape

Continue with your own project 

Advanced and experimental casting techniques

Business development – where to sell your products, progression routes, curating practice 

Analysis and evaluation methods 

Exhibition preparation and set up 

 

Contextual awareness, problem solving and critical thinking are integral to the course and will run parallel to the other projects. 

In addition to the taught sessions there will be field trips to different industry related companies and events to further enrich your study. You are encouraged to participate in an exhibition at the end of the course. 

 

Progression

By the end of this course you will be ready to either progress
into an independent jewellery design and making practice, or enter employment as a jewellery assistant. We also support progression into a range of higher education courses.

10:00am-5:00pm (including one hour self directed studies)

Price

£8,600 (or £8,850 if paid in 3 instalments)

Most tools and most course materials are included in the price, but students may need to buy extra metals and stones.
