This course will provide you with the foundation of jewellery and design skills to give you a start into your jewellery practice.
About this course
K2’s Extended Certificate in Art & Design is an intensive beginner’s course that has been designed for students who want to obtain a thorough foundation in jewellery making and design skills as well as a range of design practices and research skills.
Through a series of practical projects you will be taught to refine your jewellery making skills to a high professional standard, while at the same time developing your critical thinking and creative response to the design process. By the end of the course you will have built a capsule collection of jewellery pieces or small design objects.
The course is divided into three terms spread across one year:
Term 1 - Colour and Texture
Introduction to practical 3D skills including cutting, soldering, bending and filing
Introduction to sketching, drawing and experimenting with visual language
Sketchbook development and thorough research skills
Introduction to critical analysis and contextual awareness
Term 2 - Material Exploration
Develop your skills, techniques and designs through individual projects.
Deepen your knowledge of research skills
Introduction to the basics of metallurgy
Term 3 - Form and Shape
Producing a personal project: design and develop your own small collection
Casting skills e.g. sand casting and cuttlefish casting
Analysis and evaluation methods
Exhibition preparation and set up
Contextual awareness, problem solving and critical thinking are an integral part of the course and will run parallel to the other projects.
In addition to the taught sessions there will be field trips to different industry related companies, museums and galleries to further enrich your learning experience.

Who is this course for?
This beginners course is for students with no prior jewellery skills or who want to refresh and broaden their existing skills in jewellery making.

10:00am - 5:00pm (including one hour self directed studies)
£3,550 (or £3,700, if paid in 3 instalments)
All tools and course materials are included in the price, but students may need to buy extra metals and stones.
